The Palace of The Lost City : Sun City South Africa

As the name suggests The Palace of the Lost City is the most opulent residence in the Sun City Resort South Africa.  It has also recently been featured in Adam Sandlers new movie “Blended”. I had the privilege of visiting this amazing hotel in March this year.  We stayed for 1 week and were treated to a week of pure indulgence.  The Palace of The Lost City makes you feel like you are in a movie set as everything is so surreal. The backdrop is perfect for relaxing as even though you are in the African desert, because the greenery is so lush you also feel like you are on a tropical island!  Our visit in March coincided with African summer, and although the temperatures were around 25 degrees, we saw alot of rainfall.

The Hotel is situated on the highest hill in the Sun City Resort and everything is on a grand scale.  It’s design is based on the myth of a lost African kingdom.  The Palace of the Lost City is pretty awe-inspiring.  It is pure opulence with detail in every feature.  There are soaring towers, intricate african motifs, mosaics, frescos and fountains.

Everything in The Palace of The Lost City has an African Design.  Although the rooms could do with a makeover, they are still tastefully designed.  The hotel warns to keep windows or doors shut as this is an invitation to the many monkeys surrounding the Palace grounds.  While we were visiting a guest left her door open and monkeys ravaged her room and found food that was in her bag.

The grounds of the Hotel are covered in lush vegetation and botanical gardens.  The hotel overlooks the grand pool that is surrounded by sun lounges and restaurants.

Breakfast at The Palace is as extravagant as its design.  It could be argued that the Palace has the best buffet breakfast in the world.  There is sushi, sashimi, fresh oysters, Waffle and Pancake station with many different toppings, an egg and omelette station, pastries, fresh juices, roasts meats and so much more!  The breakfast is so special that you can even order things that are not in the buffet.  When we were there a member of our party ordered Peking Duck, and it was delivered to her table no questions asked.

The service is very prompt and professional and you feel like complete royalty.
